Datsun's roots go back as far as 1911 when Masujiro Hashimoto created Kwaishinsha Motors with the aspires to establishing the initial Japanese regular automobile creation. The DAT model 31 was released in 1914 which was named soon after the surnames in the company's partners, Study, Aoyama and Takeuchi.

The company changed its name to DAT Motor Corporation in 1925 and started making trucks as well as the passenger vehicles they have manufactured. The 1st DAT trucks have been produced for the military current market but due to lower demands in the 1920's, DAT considered merging with other automobile companies like the Jitsuyo Jidosha Co. and later became DAT Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in 1932.
